Quispie, that last paragraph says it all.

There are comparisons to be made with last year's team, as contrast. That moment, as far as I am concerned, has no comparison. No player on the recent Kings' teams could've done that. I was listening on the radio to the XM call, PHX announcers. The effect at the time was like the proverbial prick of the balloon. All Coyote momentum was gone. It was the antidote for the two horrible goals between the first and second periods. It decided the game.

Then, last night, I saw the goal and went bananas. It was one of the goals of the year. Think about it: Smyth puts it into JLB's pads, then circles around the net and pokes it in from the opposite side. How often do you see that? The perseverance shown by Smyth on the play is fantastic, game changing, SEASON changing.

The Kings easily could've lost that game. Because of the goalie change for PHX, it was the Kings' game to win, despite being on the road. Lose it, and mediocrity beckons...

And think: It was in front of his DAD! What a goal!

Your point couldn't be sharper!

Well, Quincey is a god. If Colorado wins the cup, Smyth will get a little of that Hossa feeling, sure. But the odds of that, even with Colorado's amazing start, are even less than the same thing happening to the Kings. In general, Smyth helping the Kings resurgence while Colorado does there own version with their own kids is a win-win for everyone in my opinion. Your observation reminds me of something similar I've been thinking about Gretzky. Namely, the obvious, that it must gall him that as soon as he gets out of coaching the team goes from basically worst to first. That's the old, you break up with your girlfriend, and then you bump into her and she's ten times hotter.

This Ryan Smyth trade has been fantastic for the Kings. It seems like he's enjoying himself in LA. You have to wonder, though, does he miss Colorado? I mean, they traded him because they were going to re-build. Now they're the best team in the NHL who will probably make the playoffs.
