Well, there's going to have to be movement on several fronts. For example, if anyone has any expectation that Bernier is "the goalie of the future," I can't imagine that they think it would be okay for Bernier to play in Manchester in 2010-11. Therefore, he's going to have to get games in this year, in order to prepare for what would be his first NHL season. I can't think of any big name goalies who spent three seasons in the AHL (there may be some, but I can't think of who they are -- Ryan Miller did play three AHL seasons, but the last one was the lock-out year, so that's an obvious special case). If this season would have been "too soon," which I don't believe, next season certainly be, if he stays in the AHL, waiting too long. Martin Jones will be done with juniors next season, so he'll be in Manchester with Zatkoff. There is no ROOM for Bernier except in the big league. Which means Ersberg is going to have to go, and he's going to have to go this year, i.e. some time in the next three months.

Re Frolov - if he underperforms this year, he'll get traded. If he wants too much money, he'll get traded. If he plays to his potential and is reasonable in his contract demands, he will stay. Two big if's. I don't think there's a scenario in which DL keeps him past the deadline if he's unsigned. That's my sense, anyway.

I don't think there will be a deal for a goalie, though I agree there is going to be a deal in which we give one up (per above). I don't think any defensemen are going to be traded. I also don't think there's any Kovalchuk trade in our future. At least, no trade that I would want any part of.

Frolov for Marleau, I still think is possible. Frolov and a pick. Something.

With as many teams as there are hurting for goaltending -- Toronto, Carolina, Washington, etc. -- it is hard to believe that we won't see Ersberg traded and Bernier called up before the season is out. Quick hasn't yet shown the kind of consistency to be a 70 game per year goalie on the order of Luongo, Brodeur, and Miller.

Well, there you go.... But the Kings will not carry three goalies, I predict that. DL will wait until he can get something in return for Ersberg.

And I love the headline. Indeed: Time for Brian Burke to do something other than glower and look corn-fed.
