I don’t know if Lombardi is smarter than the Chicago brain trust or not (I pray that he is), but he sure isn’t snorting whatever those guys are. If I were a Hawks fan I’d be more scared than excited. With a budget like that, their talent can only get worse.

Somehow, I don’t think NJ would take that trade. :-)

What interests me is that the Hawks last year are such an obvious comparison for the Kings this year: both young teams that went from bottom third to top third practically overnight. I guess we’ll see soon enough how much smarter Lombardi is than Dale Tallon and Son of Scotty.

I like your idea re putting Campbell on waivers. (Hello, Carolina!) There’s no question that he’s got to be one of the odd guys out, one way or another.

Another, less likely, scenario… The Hawks trade papa Bowman to NJ for Lamoriello. Lamoriello — renowned master at solving cap problems — does whatever it takes to get them under, with one condition: that he be traded back to NJ along with any Hawks player who isn’t named Kane, Toews, Keith or Hossa, with Bowman returning to Chicago a little worse for wear. Bettman probably wouldn’t dig it.

Let’s just say that if the Hawks don’t win the Cup this year, pewwwww. It’s a dirty bird that craps in its own nest.
