Maybe.

But I get the feeling that Lombardi/Hextall would prefer to see Bernier carry Manchester to whatever their fate is going to be this year, especially if that means a deep run in the playoffs. As long as Quick is healthy and playing well, Bernier can stay put.

As well, I don't agree that Bernier will be "rushed into service" this year the same way that Quick was last year. Quick was brought up because of an injury, but he stuck because we didn't have a legit #1 goalie and he impressed TM. This season we've got what both Murray and Lombardi (I think) consider to be a legit #1 goalie, so there's no urgency there. (Should Quick or Ersberg get injured, however, that would be another story; Bernier would of course be called up.)

I don't feel that Quick's heavy workload this season is as much about TM not trusting EE as it is about JQ simply being the better goalie and ready for the workload, as Sam mentions.

Next season will be a different story, and I completely agree that Bernier will be due his chance to compete with Quick for the #1 job. That is a very obvious and foreseeable 1A-1B scenario. (And I can't wait to see it!) Bye bye Ersberg.

Regardless, I feel there is no way that they will trade Bernier. Ever. Lombardi and Hextall have been grooming him with tender loving care for 3+ years. Maybe more than Doughty, this guy promises to be a franchise player (in the eyes of management, at least).

We shall see.

I think Kings' fans are making way too much of the games played thing for Quick. The guy is, what 22? As long as the schedule doesn't get murderous, two weeks off for Olympics helps - Quick is going to be the third guy and not see a ton of time in Van City - he should be fresh. Ersie is fine but should only play when necessary as he's not the goalie Quick is. I don't think its a trust issue, its a skill issue. Quick is just plain better.
