Playoff Roundelay: Kings East and Flyers West both up 3-0

And neither series is over, of course, but the dream of a Kings-Flyers cup final, as ridiculously premature that is even to speak out loud, lives to fight another day. I’ll say it again: Kings Flyers Cup Final I’m not saying because I think it’s going to happen. What am I, an idiot? I’m saying…

I hate home ice!

I was going to write a long, involved diatribe against home ice “advantage”, especially home ice advantage where the Los Angeles Kings are concerned, conjuring multiple convoluted algorithms rendered in colorful charts of breathtaking profundity. But instead I played NHL 12 with my son. (He won.) I’ll work on the charts after tonight’s game.

Wait – you’re saying there’s TWO of those guys?

That hardly seems fair. Vancouvers Canucks’ Daniel Sedin won’t travel for Game 3 – ESPN Vancouver Canucks forward Daniel Sedin will not travel to Los Angeles for Game 3 of the Western Conference quarterfinal series Sunday night against the Kings, coach Alain Vigneault confirmed Saturday after practice in Vancouver.

“Canucks fans expect unpleasantness. But this? This? Even in their darkest moment, the most tortured member of the faithful couldn’t have conceived of this.”

A different Kings team: 2010 vs. 2012

Yesterday (seems like a month ago) we looked at how the Canucks have changed since the 2010 series against a markedly different Kings team. Here’s how different: RETURNING (9): Matt Greene Rob Scuderi Drew Doughty Anze Kopitar Justin Williams Brad Richardson Dustin Brown Jarret Stoll Jonathan Quick IN (14): Mike Richards Jeff Carter Dustin Penner…

Last time the Kings had a 2-0 lead in a series was

1968 (WTF, I previously said “never” — see comments for more on my reading comprehension problems). The Kings’ first season. They beat the North Stars twice, and proceeded to lose in seven games. Okay-okay, if you count those rinky-dink best-of-three series from the 70s, the Kings swept the Atlanta Flames in 1976. But those don’t…

“I’m not sure I like that matchup,” Vigneault said, to a room full of laughs. “It sounded good, but… I’m going to think about that again.”
