“BEAT L.A.!”? Coyotes and Kings in the Conference Finals

Some things I like about this matchup:

  • Kings open on the road.
  • Easy travel.

More than that, I’m afraid to say. I am superstitious. But if I weren’t, I might have said I’m more afraid of Nashville.

I worry about underestimating Phoenix, if only because you have to respect a hot goalie in the playoffs, and Smith seems to fit that description at this point. But if you assume that our hot goalie will do no worse than cancel out their hot goalie, then yes, I like the Kings’ chances right now.

I feel bad for Nashville, though. When he had that little pencil mustache, Barry Trotz really did look like Boris Badenov, and you always worried about what Fearless Leader would do to him if they lost.

See I would say the good things here is … being in the same division – we DON’T underestimated Phoenix, nor have we for some time.  More importantly however: I point to Darryl Sutter.  With DS as the coach, it’s clear that the prepartion of the Kings for their opponent has been a major focus, and he will have them ready.  It will not be easy (as no 3rd round series is likely to be easy) … but I like our chances too.

I hope Mike Smith is still handing pucks to opposition forwards when his net is vacant next week :)

Tippett no doubt has a plan. That’s who I’m afraid of. Not Smith, not Doan, not Gretel and not (ok maybe a little) Vrbata. But Sutter has more than answered the bell so I like our chances in the strategy/adjustments department.
