The craziest thing might be that there are influential members of the media feeding this Coyote babble. On NHL Network, NBC Sports, and ESPN I heard commentators say that Doan was right, he shouldn’t have been called for any of those phantom penalties in Games 3-5, that Brown’s hit was dirty and should have been a 5-minute penalty, etc. No one has questioned the nonsense about not having an owner to complain to the league.

The only voices of reason form the media that I’ve heard have been Barry Melrose and Jeremy Roenick. And that may well be a sign of the apocalypse.

A couple of hundred years ago, fashionable aristocrats used to entertain themselves by going to local asylums and watching the lunatics cavort. I like to think we’ve evolved since then, and I’ve stopped reading the opponents fan blogs and player and coach interviews when the Kings win. It may be entertaining in a sick way to watch people driven insane by anger and frustration and disappointment, but it’s not in good taste. If and when the Kings lift the cup, no one will remember the rantings of a few disappointed fans or some clueless members of the East Coast hockey media boobocracy.

I’d say the officiating in the game was bad all around. Yandle is nuts; Doan is and has always been a jerk. And Smith tried to whack Richards after the goal so he has no credibility either. By all rights Smith should have gotten a 5-minute major for trying to hack Brown’s leg off a few games ago.

I’ve heard some complaining about officiating before but this is some filter-off, no blood to the brain, craziness. Delusional is not too strong a word.
