Wonderful post by Wyshynski today that recalled Lombardi’s El Cid Lounge softball team line. So you guys weren’t the only ones to express disappointment with Penner.

I’m particularly happy for Pens precisely because he had been such a flop up to that point.

I don’t think you were the only one with those opinions. Although I’ve supported Penner 90% of the time, I also disagreed initially with the Sutter hiring and would have liked to have seen Loktionov instead of Fraser. In those cases, it’s nice to be wrong.

Doug, I thought that after the Kings killed the 2 man disadvantage (courtesy of the stupid interference penalty on Vrbata I think) they were going to win that. That was the Coyotes chance to get a big goal and hang on.

Boy, Phoenix is embarrassing themselves with some of their post-game comments. I get the “heat of the battle” but to have “leaders’ like Doan, Smith and Yandle making the comments that they are is just silly. Score on the phantom holding the stick call on Doty and suddenly the refs are your best friends, right Doaner?

It was clear the during the final month that the post season would hinge upon Penner and Fraser stepping up.

You called it Quisp. Sutter gave Penner the leash he needed to return to form. And Fraser…what a great final month and post season…

One thing this season taught me is to keep some of my opinions to myself. I ragged Sutter’s hiring, ragged Penner, Ragged Fraser (thought he should have been on the Gone Line with Hunter and Moreau).

Now all I need is the Power Play to click and I can be wrong about Kompon, too…no, wait, he’s not on the PP any longer, is he? Look out Bernie, here I come: “Hey Bernie, the PP might improve if you stopped using a 9-iron when instructing the team!!!!!”

I was listening to the radio cast, and you could tell just by the tone of Nick’s voice that Drew was getting close to an Unsportsmanlike minor.

I was actually fairly confident that the Kings would pull it out when it got to OT. It sounded like they were getting the better of the play overall and had momentum on their side. Probably more confident, if anything, than I was about the OT in Game 5 against Vancouver.

I know what you mean about flashing back to last year’s SJ series, but I think it’s not just that the Kings are more mature, but when you play SJ 4-on-4 there’s going to be a certain amount of fire-juggling involved because of their skill level. It’s almost a matter of time before they break through and burn you. With Phoenix — as Uni said in another thread, when they’re on they hunker down like cockroaches, and if you can keep the pressure on them they’ll stay hunkered down.
