I agree there IS a limit, mostly having to do with timing, judgment, proportion…not so much morality.

Now THAT … was a brilliant argument. The Offsides too, but you just opened up an entire slant on Tippett’s point which I’d be VERY surprised to see him be able to justify away.

What is a Curveball, a breaking ball, a slider or a KNUCKLEBALL? What’s a fake-punt or a no-look bounce pass? They are creative and deceptive ways to gain an edge – oh, and all teams in every sport use them. I do think however there is a limit … lest we all want the NHL to become professional soccer. But as you say, an infraction must have ACTUALLY occurred first. I’m looking at you, Mr. Kessler.

I think we ALL know it won’t work, but it’s really the best he could do given the circumstances. Reaching, grasping, hoping against hope. That’s about all they got. What I find the most amazing is how much Kings fans have turned against a guy the wanted more than anyone behind the Kings bench. Oddly, Tippett is coming across like a dick, whereas Hitchcock came out of that series more respected than ever. Strange.

Was Dave Tippett asleep during Tuesday nights’ game? Dishonesty is when your team players are playing with reckless abandonment and getting away with it. I viewed last night’s game and was present to watch on Tuesday and I have never seen the Kings play a “dishonest” game. Damn Sore Loser!!

A wasted man-advantage can easily sway the momentum in the other team’s favor, as we have seen many times this season. I agree with you that a team that is short-handed “‘for much of the game” is screwed, but (1) Phoenix wasn’t short-handed that much (what, 8 minors? I forget now), and (2) if you’re shorthanded a lot there are obvious problems beyond the argument that one or two of those many calls were “wrong.”

But I agree with you that Tippett is employing the tactic you describe. Not sure it’s working, since he’s not really changing the subject. The subject is still “Phoenix is getting its ass handed to it on a platter.”

Penalties have little effect on the outcome but you can’t allow the refs to decide the game. Got it.

The point about the power play was to enforce the premise the penalties have little effect on the outcome of the game. Plus, as a player you can’t put yourself in a position to allow a ref to make a judgement call. You can’t allow the refs to decide the game.

Tippett is coming off as an ass the more he speaks. Its obvious he’s speaking out of frustration.
