real quickly … I’m pretty sure they did the record “live” as in recorded the audio as it happened.

There’s a little miss-use of the word “live” being thrown around.

They will join the recording that they did as it happened onto a DVD.

The “from tape” thing is also poorly worded.

Bottom line … we will get a DVD that will contain Bob and Jim calling the game as they saw it happen.

Near perfect world.

The thing that really burns me about the “NBC Announcer” Emrick is that he was the Devils play by play guy for 21 years until this year. In essence, Devils fans get their announcer for all of the playoffs and the SCF.

At least NBC could have hired Bob and Jim on for the Kings home games to give us our announcer for the home games.

This is a cool idea, and I’ll spring for the DVD when it’s available. Too bad they won’t be working off of the live feed, though. A big part of the joy of sports broadcasting is the necessary spontaneity of it. If they’re working off of a tape, already knowing what will happen, it will still have value as them talking about the game, but it’s not the same as a live call.

The whole idea of forcing NBC to let Bob and Jim horn in on the broadcast was always kind of childish, though. NBC had this laid out in advance, and for all we know even if they wanted to the contractual arrangements with Doc and Eddie O might have ruled it out. It was just silly to expect NBC to change their plans to suit parochial interests.

Congrats, Quisp. I think it’s awesome. One of the few playoffs of this playoff season has been that I haven’t heard Bob & Jim (sadly not even in the first round thanks to my own personal letdown of not living in Los Angeles anymore so I have to experience this all isolated up here in Seattle). It will be nice when I relive this whole thing to be able to hear Bob and Jim make the call.
