I still don’t see how it makes the Kings better to trade Bernier for picks or a prospect when it’s pretty likely Jonathan Quick is going to need to face fewer pucks next season. It’s not like the Kings have a burning need at position x and must use Bernier as part of a big package. And if it’s picks we’re talking about, why not wait until next trade deadline? The 2013 draft is a year away.

    Bernier’s value has to be increased to get fair market value. If he is indeed a #1 netminder in the NHL, the Kings would do well to play him 25 times this year. Make him look great and then trade him. Right now people are unsure about his abilities. Or at least not sure enough to warrant a few good players or prospects coming back to the Kings. That should not be so after a good 25 games this year. And if he fizzles out, he’ll happily come back as backup, I would think. At the very least to prove himself.

    Deano knows what to do. Bernier can ask for a trade as many times as he wants, I can’t imagine Deano dealing him until the deadline.

    If Bernier knew what was good for him he’d proclaim that he’s happy to be a King and looking forward to helping the team win another Cup, then proceed to tear shit up next season. His value would rise quickly, he would gain a reputation as a positive thinker and “locker room guy” and he would find more quality organizations chasing after his services.

    You’re 23, Jonathan, earn it.

    It’s a bit premature to predict when or if Bernier gets traded. But I bet Martin Jones gets a long look during the preseason.
