Gabe Gauthier, Derek Armstrong tidbit

Gauthier signs deal with Eagles; former LA King considered Cutthroats

Former DU co-captain and Los Angeles Kings forward Gabe Gauthier officially became a member of the Colorado Eagles today. His deal was announced on the ECHL team’s website. I spoke to Gabe and he said he also considered signing with the start-up Denver Cutthroats and coach Derek Armstrong, whom he played with in Los Angeles. The Cutthroats will play their inaugural season in the Central Hockey League, which is generally considered single-A. The ECHL is viewed as double-A and the American Hockey League is unquestionably triple-A.

“I’m just happy to be home,” Gauthier said.

Gauthier, who is married with a young child and lives in Denver, played in Germany last season. He said he will train with the large contingent of current and former DU Pioneers this summer, including at DU’s pro camp next month.
