It was 19 years without getting back to the Finals. Since the 1993 run, the Kings have made the playoffs in:
•1998 (swept in first round)

"...
was the beginning of the fire sale which paved the way for the dark ages of Ferraro, Yachmanev and Burger King jerseys." This made me cringe.

I also remember the hopeless and empty feeling I had when Gretz was traded. I just knew we were in for a long haul. And watching the championship blu-ray reminded me that the Kings went 18 freakin' years without going to the playoffs! Long haul indeed. I had forgotten about that thanks to Lombardi and now the cup! :-)

wow...the dark days of being a Kings fan. I remember when Gretz was traded and I was pissed. I hoped he'd do well but you could see the Kings swirling the bowl and sure enough they pulled the lever and let it all drain away. That was the decade of trading away your draft picks and bringing in the third line "journeymen character guys".
It was hard being a fan back then but it paid off in the long run and someone finally had the patience and know how to do it right...thank you Dean Lombardi.
