Overheard on the radio

Today, on AM 570 (in Los Angeles), the two sports radio personalities were talking about the NHL lock-out. The conversation went something like this:

First Radio Person: The NHL has canceled more games, so now the earliest hockey season could start is January 15th.

Second Radio Person: Isn’t the season usually over by then?

First Radio Person: I don’t know.

A few weeks ago, also on 570, the so-called “Loose Cannons” were talking hockey briefly. One of the cannons mentioned the potential (now actual) canceling of the Winter Classic. Pat O’Brien wondered aloud if that wasn’t when the NHL season usually starts.

This is the level of awareness we’re dealing with — from sports experts.

You don’t have to like a certain sport, but one would assume that if you talk sports on the radio everyday of your life and earn a living by doing so, then you might at least do some research over random sports topics no matter how unfamiliar. Though, the old sports talk chestnut “hockey lol wut” is never not funny…

It’s like if a Jehovah’s Witness (or whatever) came to your door without knowing anything about religion.
