Assorted Kings stats I find interesting

  • The Kings have spent the second least number of minutes at 5-on-5. They are 30 seconds ahead of the Oilers, who are last.
  • Kings lead the league in avg TOI 5-on-3, with 1.3 minutes per game. (They haven’t scored yet.)
  • Kings are 26th in shots-for per 60 minutes of 5-on-4 ice-time. In other words, they don’t shoot on the power play. Seems like a problem.
  • Shots-for per 60 minutes 5-on-4: 34.6. Shots-for per 60 minutes 5-0n-3: 35. That’s right, an additional 0.4 shots per 60 minutes.
  • By contrast, teams that have scored 5-on-3 average 3-to-7 times as many shots.
  • Incidentally, 5-on-5 the Kings average 30.9 shots. So, they only barely shoot more on the power play than they do at even strength.
  • By contrast, San Jose, which leads the league in 5-on-4 goals-for per 60 minutes, averages double the number of shots on the power play, compared to even strength.
  • Kopitar is 7th in the league in goals-for per 60 minutes of 5-on-5 ice-time. Jeff Carter is 11th.
  • Kyle Clifford is 2nd in the league in points per 60 minutes 5-on-5.
  • Clifford, Muzzin and Nolan are 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the league in +/- per 60 minutes of ice-time.
  • Clifford, Muzzin, Nolan and Fraser have not been on the ice for a goal-against.
  • Richardson, King, Lewis and Penner have not been on the ice for a goal-for.
  • Oh, and the Kings just best Vancouver in a shoot-out.

Just saw on Insider that this was the first time in over 2 years the Kings have come back from a 2-0 deficit to win a game. I’d like to think it was because they were so good all last season that they didn’t have to, but I can’t even say that with a straight face.
