I love Dustin Penner

Just read the Mayor’s interview with him, in which he says (I am quoting from memory, so call it a paraphrase), we’re a team first organization and we just got our first win. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix itWhat’s he referring to? Putting him back in the line-up.

I thought he had a pretty good game on opening day. Yes, in game two he got that penalty that led to a goal-against, and coughed up the puck a couple of times, in the Frolov tradition. But I loved Fro, too.

I am still pretty confident Penner will have a good year. And yet, Gagne looked good in the last game. And Clifford is playing way above his pay grade. King has been solid. In my opinion, the weakest player on the left side has been the other Dustin, but that will work itself out in time. No, I’m not bashing the captain. But with Brown, Clifford, King, Gagne and Penner on the left, something’s got to give. You can’t sustain that kind of salary in the press box for long, without it becoming a pretty big elephant in the room.

Unless Gagne pulls a few rabbits from the hat I think it will be Gagne going…IMO it comes down to a question of size and durability. Gagne is concussion prone, Penner is pancake prone. Pancakes are curable using a few bag skates.

Penner will be fine…he plays when he has to and in a shortened season “has to” is almost every game.

Its the Loktionov thing that bugs me. Just as everything is falling in line…chaos and disharmony. If he wasn’t good enough to be on the Cup then why the heck keep his around (other then trade value)?
