Once a player passes through waivers, whether claimed or not, he does not have to pass through waivers a second time in order to be assigned, until he plays 10 NHL games or stays on an NHL roster for 30 days. So, the Islanders can send him to their AHL team.

What are NYI’s options with Hickey? Can they put him in the AHL, or must he stay up in the NHL? Or can he clear waivers, etc?

Great write-up and analysis as always. It’s both humbling and proud to see where the Kings are today vs. the roster you posted up above. The only other naturally gifted fwds not highlighted above are Fro (I miss his big butt protection scheme) and Cammy. Everyone else would struggle making The current 4th line roster (excl. Army). And the Dmen weren’t much better. Blakey pass his prime but Visnosky and Modry were gifted skaters.

Boy we’ve come along ways from those barren shelves days!

I suspect there was an embarrassment factor working for Lombardi in that drafting Hickey as 4 overall was a reach, and as it turned out, a mistake. To Dean’s credit he didn’t force a call up of Hickey when he was clearly a bust.
