Kind of depends on whether he got left off the cup and then asked for a trade, or he asked for a trade and then got left off the cup. But sure, for instance abusive assholes are frequently also really generous and thoughtful, often to the same people.

I can see a way that Lombardi could decide to both leave him off the Cup and also try to find a good home for him. It’s not all of a piece.

You know, I started thinking the trade was the best thing to happen to him. The timing of that trade didn’t make sense for the Kings (there are months until his contract is up, he could have been insurance until then, etc). But it did benefit Loktionov to go to a club with a different philosophy about their bottom six and a need for other centers.

Maybe Lombardi considered all the dues he paid after all.
