First round match-ups I’d like to see

  • Chicago v. Detroit
  • Anaheim v. Los Angeles
  • Vancouver v. San Jose
  • Minnesota v. St. Louis

Won’t happen though.

Kings / Ducks would take some pretty craptacular play by the Kings, so let’s hope not.

I want to see Columbus / Chicago, possibly for perverse reasons.

Thinking about matchups just awakens my rage against the new playoff format. I hate this philosophy of rivalries (real or manufactured) trump logic. My idea of the perfect playoff format – 16 teams, 16 seeds, go. After all there already is a conference champion before the playoffs begin (shouldn’t it work the same as division championships?) If not that, what’s wrong with the current format? Hockey already had the best playoffs in sports. Grrr.

Better not happen! I don’t wanna see the Kings drop to 7th! Right now the Kings are set up to play Vancouver in the 1st round, which would be the 3rd time in 4 years that’s happened, which should make for a hell of a series!

Also, it would be nice if the Kings started with home ice advantage. The last time the Kings started a playoff series with it was 21 years ago when they finished second in the Smythe and got home ice in the first round against the Oilers (not that it helped much, they lost the series in six games).

Well, at least I got the teams right. And one of the match-ups.
