Post-game/pre-game whatever bullets

  • Jeff Carter, with his 17th goal in 23 games, is on a 60 goal pace for a normal 82 game season.
  • The Kings’ victory over the Flames doesn’t count in the season series tie-breaker.
  • Tomorrow’s game counts. The Kings are up 2 points on the Flames in the season series, and this is the last game between the two teams this regular season.
  • The Kings are still 3rd in points-blown, and 5th in the official standings.
  • The Flames have dropped to the bottom of the official standings, but in points-blown they’re 12th, and Columbus, despite their recent success, is still 15th.
  • No-one has played as few games as the Kings and Flames, with 23.
  • The Ducks are within two point-blown of the Blackhawks, who have lost two in a row.
  • The Kings now have 28 points after 23 games. That is the best start in the Lombardi era, tied with 2009-2010.
  • Justin Williams leads all Kings in +-/60. Followed by Jake Muzzin, Anze Kopitar, Slava Davis Drewiske, Trevor Lewis and Alec Martinez.
  • Leading all NHL defensemen in goals/60 (5-on-5) is…Jake Muzzin.
  • Voynov is 10th.
  • Toughest matchups (as measured by QUALCOMP) continue to go to Kopitar’s line, followed by Richards’ line, then Fraser’s, then Stoll’s.

    A few things:

    – Best start without two major pieces of the Stanley Cup team.
    – Carter keeps up this pace, he has to be talked about for MVP.
    – Seems Muzzin has played himself in to the top-4.

Just one question: who’s Slava Davis Drewiske?

DD2 changed his name. Thus, more ice time.

Any thoughts on why Toffoli was called up?

      Most likely, someone’s hurt.

Open spot, why not? With the log jam starting to break its a good time to have a look.

Interesting discussion at JftC about who will be Toffoli’s linemates, assuming he’s swapped in for Richards. JZarris observed that if he swaps right into Richards’ role alongside Carter and Penner, then Penner becomes the playmaker on that line. Which is a weird thought, but he’s right.
