Suddenly the Kings have nine NHL defensemen

Drew Doughty, Slava Voynov, Matt Greene, Robyn Regehr, Jeff Schultz, Keaton Ellerby, Willie Mitchell, Jake Muzzin and Alec Martinez. Mitchell may or may not be healthy (ever); Muzzin and Martinez are qualified RFAs. If we’re still looking at Regehr/Doughty and Muzzin/Greene, are we to assume that Schultz or Ellerby will be playing top four minutes with Voynov if Mitchell isn’t ready to go? Is there any way a trade involving Alec Martinez isn’t in the works?

Funny how subtracting Scuderi from the line-up seems to take us right back to the pre-Scuderi days of place-holders on d. How did that happen so fast?

I wonder if Doughty could play with Schultz on the top pair with Voynov and Regher being #2 and Greene-Muzzin as the 3rd pairing.

Schultz on the top pair, or any pair for that matter….I think I am going to throw up. Horrible, just horrible.

I love the move. It makes me think of the throw back uniforms which are really cool. What? I’m sorry…… what? Ooooh. You mean as a hockey move!! It SUCKS. There, that’s my opinion. EXACTLY as Quisp says. Lombardi I hear was on vacation during the WCF cause he obviously didn’t see the reason the Hawks d was so good was because they can all actually skate, and move the puck with speed. Now we have super fast three dmen in Regehr, Ellerby and Schultz. I remember reading on a blog the last time the Kings beat the Caps in Washington the Caps fans banging on about how poor Schultz was.
Yeah, no matter. A quintessential Lombardi guy. He has size,….. skates…. um…. nevermind that one.

Quisp, what’s the new rules on burying contracts in the minors?

I know it can still be done if the salary is below some threshold number.

Is this possibly an angle Dean is working to keep all 9 defensemen, pending they survive waivers?

See new post on this topic. The main thing, though, is that the players would have to go through waivers, and who would clear? No point in signing Ellerby or Schultz only to waive them. Martinez and/or Muzzin would get snapped up.
